ANNOUNCEMENT ON THE COMPETITION FOR THE POST OF EXECUTIVE SECRETARY

 

Washington, D.C., November 16, 2011 – After the announcement of the Executive Secretary of the IACHR, Dr. Santiago A. Canton, on concluding his mandate on December 31, 2012, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, through Resolution 01/2011, established a calendar for the process of identification of the most qualified person for the post and to forward his name to the OAS Secretary General for his appointment, based on Article 21 of the Statute of the Commission and Article 11 of the Rules of Procedure.

 

During the 143 period of sessions, the Commission proceeded to define the terms of reference for the upcoming competition announcement for the post of Executive Secretary. In accordance with the calendar approved by the IACHR through Resolution 01/2011, once the announcement soliciting applications has been made, the period to submit them will be open until May 1, 2012. The final identification of an applicant for his/her designation as Executive Secretary will take place in July 2012, followed by a transition period to be launched in October 2012, leading to the assumption of functions by the new Executive Secretary on January 1, 2013.

 

The announcement soliciting applications describes the responsibilities and duties of the post as established in Article 12 of the Rules of Procedure of the Commission, as well as the requisites to apply.
