IACHR REAFFIRMS ITS COMMITMENT TO THE OFFICE OF THE CIDH00895E04 Now that Dr.
Santiago A. Canton has taken office as the new Executive Secretary, the
Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) announces that the
Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression, in coordination with the Executive
Secretariat of the IACHR, will continue the activities it has been
carrying out since its inception to defend freedom of expression in the
Hemisphere. Dr.
Santiago A. Canton served as Special Rapporteur for Freedom of
Expression beginning in November 1998.
On August 1, he assumed his new post.
In September, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights will
determine the procedure for selecting a new Special Rapporteur for
Freedom of Expression.
The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) wishes to
reaffirm its unwavering commitment to protecting freedom of expression.
Protecting and promoting the full exercise of this right will continue
