The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) has been informed that Eduardo Pizarro Leongómez, Director of the Institute of Political Studies and International Relations of the National University in Bogotá, Colombia, was wounded in an attack while on his way to work on December 22, 1999. 

The IACHR wishes to express its most emphatic condemnation of this attempted murder of a well -known academic and defender of human rights and it trusts that the State will take all necessary steps to identify and prosecute those responsible.
